The Segelman Trust was established with funds designated for charitable purposes under the will of Gerald Segelman, a businessman who owned a chain of cinemas. The Trust began making grants to charities in 2013.
Mr Segelman collected violins and the Trust owns of a number of significant instruments. The 1722 Stradivarius violin “Rode” is on loan to the Ashmolean Museum as part of an exhibition of important stringed instruments. A 1758 Gagliano violin is lent to the Royal College of Music, where it is made available to students of baroque performance. Other instruments are managed and loaned out through the Maggini Foundation in Switzerland.
